Why schedule tasks?

Scheduled work removes the need to remember the prompt every day or week. It is useful for repeatable work such as compiling project updates, summarising news, preparing a standup or creating a monthly review.

01

Open Claude Cowork

Select Scheduled in the left sidebar.

02

Create a new task

Choose Create new task and give it a name that states the expected result.

03

Write the standing prompt

Describe the sources, actions, decision rules and exact output format.

04

Choose the frequency

Select hourly, daily, weekly or monthly, then set the day, time and timezone.

05

Choose the model

Use a balanced model for routine work; reserve deeper reasoning for genuinely complex analysis.

06

Save and activate

Review the summary, activate the task and inspect its first run before relying on it.

Weekly project assistant prompt

You are my weekly project assistant. Every time this task runs:

1. Summarise the status of active projects.
2. List tasks that are overdue or at risk.
3. Highlight decisions needed this week.
4. Suggest the three priority actions I should take.

Format the result as a concise report with clear sections. State when information is missing rather than guessing.

More routines to try

Daily news digest

Find the five most relevant AI and technology developments from the previous 24 hours and explain why each matters to your work.

Monday standup preparation

Prepare the week’s three priorities, current blockers and decisions that need an owner.

Friday reflection

Ask three reflection questions, then organise the answers into wins, lessons and changes for next week.

Monthly review

Create a consistent review covering goals achieved, metrics, next-month priorities and one area to improve.

Schedule a clearly defined decision or deliverable—not a vague instruction to “check things”.
